SCCA Southern Pacific Region hosted its annual awards ceremony this weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, additionally hosting the first U.S. Majors event for the region. Southern California had some heavy hitters at this event — most notably Evan Jacobs and Austin Varco sweeping the Spec Miata Championship podium, and 2 of the 4 valuable Comey Awards: Driver of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Austin Varco was awarded the Otis D. Hurley III Rookie of the Year award, celebrating 3 wins, 11 podiums, 14 top-5s, 3 official lap records, 4 poles, and 4 fastest laps in just 16 starts in the ever-competitive identically prepared Spec Miata field.
